Greetings! My name is Kathy Hwang and I am a 3L at Cardozo School of Law in New York, NY. I am one individual of a 18-student group flying out to Africa - yes, I did say AFRICA - to study Post-Conflict Reconciliation. Specifically, we will be traveling to Rwanda and Tanzania and meeting with survivors of the genocide, local government officials, law students, and more. I am starting this blog through encouragement of fellow classmates who are staying in the United States to pursue other endeavors, including students traveling to New Orleans and Louisiana with the Student Hurricane Network. Best Wishes to you all!

Some of the students in our group have traveled to Africa already, whether through work, through Peace Corps and other volunteer services, or for leisure. Myself? I have never been to Africa although I have always dreamed of an experience such as this. Needless to say, I expect this trip to be unique, eye-opening, and transformative. Am I expecting too much? Quite possibly...yet, we embark on this adventure by ringing in the New Year somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean with momentum going forward towards a foreign land. What better way to begin the Year 2008 with eyes and thoughts about human experiences, reconciling the past, and moving forward! Happy New Year and I hope you read on!
